Pick Me Up

Well, I couldn't actually pick him up, but Lucas was feeling better today and I was able to hold him for the first time in a week or so. He had a really rough weekend and Adam and I rotated spending nights at the hospital to stay close. He started having some serious issues maintaining his blood pressure and the severe edema began spreading beyond his upper body to his limbs as well. Again, all the edema causes more difficulty with his breathing so he needed much more support on the ventilator. Being so swollen, he's been extremely uncomfortable and agitated and can have a hard time recovering when he gets upset. This can require bagging him. Pretty terrifying watching him turn blue :( All this has improved over a couple days thank goodness.

On top of it all, Lucas spiked a fever and his heart rate sky rocketed this weekend. It was really scary and doctor's are still unsure why this happened. It's unclear if he was fighting an infection or having a reaction to new medications. After a couple days, his fever has come down and he seemed much more comfortable this morning. In other news, his chest tube output has dramatically slowed down. The docs decided to pull his left chest tube today and we'll continue to keep a close eye on his clinical status. It's very possible he may need a new one over time, but wouldn't it be great if he didn't?! Like always, it seems as soon as we are making a little forward progress, Lucas takes a few steps back. The whole process of his recovery has been extremely frustrating. Little guy is holding strong though and we're so proud of how far he's come.

Because Lucas was having a better day, I felt more comfortable leaving the hospital this afternoon and coming home to spend time with the girls. I took them to the park and we had fun in the fantastic weather. I can't believe they already start school on Monday!

Maggie "enjoying" the swings.
Hard to tell if she is relaxed or nauseous sometimes!

Hadley having fun and showing off her new haircut for school!
